Cutting Board Maintenance
Step 1: Clean your board. As always, after using your board, scrub it with hot, soapy water then rinse and dry. Do not submerge the board in water and do not soak in water. For stain removal, use coarse salt and a half of lemon to scrub the board. Let the lemon and salt mixture sit for about five minutes. Then wipe clean, rinse the board and dry. Not only will this remove stains but it will deodorize and remove any strong odors.
Step 2: Take steps to properly care for your board. At least once a month, oil the board. Oiling is a good first step. Not all oils are the same. Olive oil and standard cooking oils will damage your board. Using a 100% food safe mineral oil or commercial cutting board oil ensures that the board is protected. We recommend Walrus Oil Cutting Board Oil. Liberally apply using a cloth or paper towel, spread it over the entire board. Let this soak in for awhile and remove excess oil with a dry cloth or paper towel.
Step 3: Condition your board with cutting board wax to seal the board from moisture. We recommend Walrus Oil brand cutting board wax that provides a beautiful seal. The sealing step will help to extend the life of your board by ensuring excess water is not absorbed.
Monthly maintenance will ensure that your new cutting board will be enjoyed by generations to come!
