About Us

Meraki Makes, what an unusual name for a business you may say, but let us explain. We are Terry and Nanci and we love to make things.  We have been making things out of wood, yarn and fabric for many years. 

Meraki is how we feel about being makers. Meraki is a Greek word that means to do something with passion, creativity, or love. And we put our whole heart and soul into the products we make.  It gives us a sense of fulfillment, joy, and pride, but the true fulfillment is sharing what we make

A lot of our family and friends have been gifted with what we make.  We’ve seen the joy on their faces when they've received a cutting board or a table or a baby blanket or clothes made just for them.  We want to spread that joy to others! 

This website features hardwood cutting boards and coasters, BBQ chopping boxes and bowls as well as some crochet fiber art and accessories. 

Terry is the maker of the hardwood items and he started doing them because he wanted an excuse to go to the hardwood store and make something out the beautiful wood they carry.  We didn’t need any more tables!  So what started as making them for family turned into a passion. It gives him a lot of joy creating the designs with all varied grains and colors.  It’s almost like the wood talks to him! 

Nanci is the maker of the crochet items having learned the skill from her Mimi as a young girl.  She has made countless baby blankets for family and friends.  She enjoys requests from the grandchildren like "can you make me a tiny blue octopus?", creating beautiful color combinations for the wall hanging mandalas and reliving her hippie days with a boho fringe purse.  

We believe that there is something special about a handmade item. We want to share that with our customers.  We hope that you will enjoy using them for years to come.  Maybe they could become a family heirloom for you!
